LUST LIST: man bags

I love a good man’s bag myself and these two – by Gary Butterfield, University of Northampton – are no exception. The minute I saw them on the catwalk I wanted one of these. Big bags are essential for me as I tend to end up carrying my entire life around with me in it!

On that note, I have been looking for a while now, for a new laptop case for my little baby! Currently, I throw it into a sleeve and then into whichever handbag I am currently using. But I feel that it would be far more appropriate to encase it in something more like this:

Whilst researching for this post I came across the Mulberry for Apple collection, of which this Bayswater Sleeve for Applemac. There are some 19 items in the collection – any of which I would be quite happy with! (If anyone out there is listening!?)

Of course, for a slightly more affordable option and keeping to the original theme, I also found this rather lovely men’s laptop bag by All Saints:

What do you use to keep your laptop safe when you’re out and about?

Designer fashion at the click of a button!

You might remember that the very kind and lovely people at GE cameras UK helped me out at Graduate Fashion Week last week with a spare SD card when I forgot mine? Those lovely people do indeed have names – Carole, Martina and Gary! Another huge thank you!

Why am I mentioning all of this again? You might well ask! Not only did Martina provide me with an SD card she also showed me their beautiful new camera which was launched at Graduate Fashion Week.

The “Create by Jason Wu” is being dubbed as the UK’s first fashion camera.

The camera – as the name suggests – has been designed by Jason Wu. That’s right – the very same designer whose creations are so popular with US First Lady, Michelle Obama. Can’t be bad, eh?!

The minute I saw the camera I knew I had to have one. It is beautiful. Sleek. Sophisticated. Everything that a woman could want from a compact camera. That’s the point – this is most definitely a woman’s camera.

It is a encased in a gorgeous and sumptuous cream coloured leather body with a similar carry case too. It would just look the part in my hand!!

Don’t get me wrong, I love my DSLR so much and nothing is going to make me move away from it. Completely. But sometimes a point and shoot is what is required. A night out with girl friends. A weekend away with only hand luggage. A bike ride. The “Create” is such a lovely portable size. I can imagine just chucking it in my bag everywhere I go simply because of its size and weight, I’ll barely notice it’s there until I need it!

Simplicity is at the heart of the design of this camera. There is no need for a memory card – so good for me! The internal memory will hold over 1,000 images. There is no fiddly cable to lose – instead it has a built in USB connector which simply retracts when not in use. And it charges from your computer too – just like an iPod. There is an additional mains plug – just in case!

But the packaging is what sells it as a real treat for any woman out there:

For any man out there looking for a present for their girlfriend/wife, this is it! It is even packaged like it could be a jewellery box!

According to my sources the camera will be available later this month from all good digital camera retailers (and Argos!) for about £160.

As for how it is to use? I don’t know. Yet. But as soon as I get one (!!) I will be sure to let you know.

More soon.

Love, SG

Graduate Fashion Week

I think it finally time to show you some of the other photographs I took at the Graduate Fashion Week Gala show. This was designed by Roya Hesam’s of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute, who won the International Award. I love the way that the chiffon falls and moves.

I nearly didn’t have any photos at all: In typical style I was in a rush when I dashed home from work to change, chuck camera, Oyster card and whatever else in my bag and head out of the door to catch our train. Only as we got on the bus to the train station did I decide to check that the memory card was in my camera. It wasn’t. Damn. To my stylish sis this was not much of a surprise: apparently, I have always been a little forgetful and disorganised. Moi?! After a quick – ok, pretty prolonged – debate with myself – stylish sis refused to get involved – I decided it was not worth the risk of missing the train by jumping in a cab back to the flat to retrieve the forgotten card from my computer.

Once on the train I sent a little plaintive tweet out into the world: Oh no! Forgotten my memory card for my camera! Got the camera but no card! What will I do?! On way to #graduatefashionweek!

No sooner had I sent my little tweet out into the world, than I had this response: GEcamerasUK @sugarandspiceSG Visit Stand G114 and say Carole from the office said you could have one of ours – any probs, ask them to call me. 🙂

Therefore without further ado, I must say a huge thank you to GEcamerasUK for the SD card. It was so very kind of them.

For far superior photos than I could ever take of these outfits by Ludmila Maida of Northumbria University, check out those taken by Polka Dot of Street Style London here and here.

You might remember the photographs of the designs by Alex Newton, Northampton University from the other day? Here is another dress from his modern romantic collection in silk.

Below are three of the designs from De Montford student, Anna Lee’s winning collection of bold and brash animal prints in a mix of velvet and silk. Lee took home the Zandra Rhodes Catwalk Textiles Award.

I had a fabulous time at the event. A huge thank you again to GE Cameras.

I’m off for another glass of Pimms! Hope you’ve all had good weekends.

More soon. Love, SG

Eeek!!

There’s absolutely no way that I am going to be able to be cool about this.

On Wednesday, at Graduate Fashion Week, as I was wondering around the stands in the exhibition, a gentleman stopped me and told me he was a photographer for vogue.com’s Street Chic section. I knew exactly what he was talking about but tried to stay cool as he continued on, asking if I would mind if he took a photo of me. Would I mind? Would I mind? No. I told him where everything was from and then posed for his camera.

I wasn’t even sure if they’d use the photo. But they have!!! And I am anything but cool about it – I am so excited about it!!!!! I LOVE the Street Chic section and always used to look at it and think how nice it would be to be featured.

And now I have been:

A little taster…

After the excitement of the Graduate Fashion Week Gala show last night is the harsh reality of work today.

I am still trying to get through all of the photos I took last night but while I do that I thought I’d share these with you. They are not the most wonderful quality but I love how they demonstrate the movement in the pieces from the collection by Alex Newton of Northampton University:

Jessica's Wonderland

I am off to Graduate Fashion Week tomorrow and I am so excited!

In preparation I have been checking out the GFW blog. And I have immediately fallen in love with UWE student, Jessica Hart’s Alice in Wonderland inspired collection:

Awesome. I love the dress on the left in particular.

Is anyone else going to Graduate Fashion Week or have already been? Seen anyone you’ve been impressed with?

Follow me on Twitter tomorrow, for all of the updates and news, as it happens!
