What Was I Wearing: Royal Garden Party

You might remember that I mentioned recently that I had been invited to one of the summer Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace that HM The Queen hosts every year. (No? Check out the posts here and here and here.) Well, the party took place a week ago and I just had to show you what I wore for my date at the Palace:

I chose a tunic from Marks and Spencer that I got on sale (down from £35 to £12), pulling it in at the waist with a cream belt (£5, also from Marks and Spencer) and teamed with my nude/cream-coloured heels from Next:

The food was particularly scrummy. I only got one photo because it didn’t last long enough for anymore!! (Includes victoria sponge; coffee-flavoured eclair; chocolate ganache torte; fresh raspberry tart; and iced coffee.)

And a couple of photos of the superb setting for the party:

What would you wear from an appointment with HM The Queen?

5 Under £50: Royal Garden Party shoes

Or 7 nearly under £70!!

Cinders will go to the Ball and she will do so in a pretty dress and a beautiful pair of shoes. But which dress? And which shoes? I still haven’t decided on a dress, or a hat, or shoes! With less than a week to go!! So – for now – I have given up on the dress and am turning my attention to the shoes. I currently plan to choose a pair of shoes for the day from those I currently own but there’s no harm in looking, is there…?!

Any thoughts will be gladly welcomed:

Sensible and conservative – but boring?
Clockwise from top left: Pura Lopez pale pink court shoes; Paul & Joe Sister black pumps; Maloles beige court shoes; and Nine West black heels.

Flatties: won’t sink into the lawns at Buckingham Palace!!
Left to right: Ravel ballerinas; and Bloch ballerinas.

Sandals for a summer garden party: Nine West sandals

Which would you choose for the Royal Garden party?

Today’s Five dresses Under £50 for the Royal Garden Party are from Oasis. Floral seems to be the over-riding theme! What do you think of these picks?

Clockwise from top left: Round neck shift dress; Lauren floral dress; Oriental slinky dress; Chevron striped dress; and Dragonfly print tunic

Which is your favourite? Which do you think is the most appropriate for a date with Her Majesty?

5 Under £50: Royal Garden Party dresses from Next

Next month, the boyfriend and I will be attending a garden party at Buckingham Palace. It is, without doubt, a once in a lifetime opportunity and one which, obviously, requires a dress to live up to the occasion. Of course, being a bargain hunter, I have set myself a budget of £50 to find a dress. I will wear a pair of shoes from my over-flowing shoe rack and a hat or fascinator will be extra – or borrowed! So over the next week or so I will be "visiting" a few of my favourite online stores and picking my top five picks under £50. Today's are from Next:
